The following is an example referral reply message to help illustrate the Data Center Referral Policy on the Policies page.

CC: Agency X, Agency Y

Dear Jane,

We received your inquiry and determined that we are unable to fill your data request. We have identified two other agencies that may be of assistance and have forwarded your request to them. We have provided contact information for Agency X and Agency Y below should you need to contact them, however, they should be contacting you with more information soon.

Please feel free to contact us again if you need additional assistance.

Some agencies may choose to send separate messages to the agencies they are referring to and the user, or some may wrap it all up into one message as the example above illustrates.
